Engine Diagnostics

Engine Diagnostics helps idenitify and address issues with a vehicle’s engine and related systems. It is a critical step in identifying and resolving engine-related problems, allowing our repair shop to provide accurate and effective solutions to our customers. It helps ensure the vehicle runs efficiently and meets emissions standards.  Here’s a bit of a breakdown on what it involves; 

  • Diagnostic scan: The process often begins with connecting a diagnostics scanner to the vehicle’s onboard computer. The scanner retrieves error codes, DTC’s, that are stored by the vehicle’s computer.
  • Code analysis: The technician analyzes the DTC’s to pinpoint the source or direction of the problem.
  • Visual inspection: A physical inspection of the engine and its components includes checking for loose or damaged wires, hoses, and visible signs of wear or damage.
  • Testing sensors and components: The technician may test various sensors and components, such as mass air flow sensor, oxygen sensors, and throttle body sensor, to ensure they are functioning correctly.
  • Fuel system inspection: The fuel system, including the fuel pump, fuel injectors, and fuel lines, is examined for proper operation and potential issues. 
  • Ignition system inspection: The ignition system, including spark plugs, ignition coils, and distributor(old days), is checked to ensure efficient combustion.
  • Cooling system assessment: The cooling system is inspected to prevent overheating issues, including radiator condition, water pump for leaks, belt condition, and thermostat functionality. 
  • Road test: In some cases, a road test may be conducted to replicate driving conditions and observe how the engine behaves under load.
